IMDb

Bring It On: In It to Win It is a 2007 teen film directed by Steve Rash and starring Ashley Benson, Michael Copon and Cassie Scerbo. It is the fourth film in the Bring It On franchise, which focuses on competitive high school cheerleading. It was shot at Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando. It was released direct-to-video on December 18, 2007 in the United States and had a television premier on January 20, 2008 on ABC Family. It is not a direct sequel to the previous Bring It On films, and does not feature any returning cast members, nor reference its predecessors.

Plot

The West Coast Sharks Cheerleading Squad, captained by Carson (Ashley Benson), are attending Camp Spirit-Thunder where they're confronted by their arch-rivals, the East Coast Jets Cheerleading Squad, captained by Brooke (Cassie Scerbo). Both squads are fierce rivals because each is the best on its respective coast; however, the Jets have beaten the Sharks at the annual Cheer Camp Championships for the previous three years in a row.

On her first day at camp, Carson meets and hits it off with Penn (Michael Copon). They trade phone numbers, neither knowing the other is a member of their arch-rival squad. When Carson eventually does find out that Penn is a Jet, she gives him up although she really likes him.

As part of the Camp Spirit-Thunder ritual, the West Coast Sharks are given the Spirit Stick, a "special" cheerleading item that they have to guard fiercely. Carson agrees to watch the Spirit Stick when her friends leave for a poker game, but she forgets about it when Penn arrives to ask her out. They go to a nearby amusement park and spend time together, notably riding the Double Dragons (Dueling Dragons at Universal's Islands of Adventure) rollercoaster. At this time, Penn confesses his darkest secret to Carson: he forced his team to raise money for him to go to the camp so that his father wouldn't find out he is a cheerleader.

Carson's friends return to her room, but find both her and the Spirit Stick missing. They search for her, eventually finding her dancing with Penn. At this time Brooke and her friends also see the duo. When the Sharks reveal that the Spirit Stick is gone, Carson accuses the Jets of sending Penn to lure her away, and she angrily announces to all Penn's secret. The Sharks are worried, because losing the Spirit Stick means they are "cursed".

The Sharks decide to hold a ceremony to ask the "Cheer Gods" for forgiveness. They are interrupted when the Jets arrive, and the squads have a "cheer-rumble". The authorities arrive, and in the melee a number of members of both teams are injured. Both teams have to leave since neither has enough members to compete. But before they can board their respective buses, Carson suggests to Brooke that they combine into a single squad to compete at the Cheer Camp Championship. Though reluctant at first, the teams come together as the "Shets", complete with new uniforms made through patching their old uniforms together. The two teams slowly bond, while Carson works on repairing her relationship with Penn.

The Shets sneak into Camp Victory, the rival of Camp Spirit-Thunder, to scope Camp Victory's star team The Flamingos. After seeing their impressive performance, Carson devises a new routine, inspired by the Double Dragon ride at that amusement park. On the day of the competition, the Shets perform their routine perfectly, winning the competition outright. Carson and Penn kiss on the mat in the middle of the celebrations, and it is revealed that Camp Victory are the ones responsible for stealing the Spirit Stick.

The end credits feature clips of the cast dancing "all over the world", while the singer Ashley Tisdale performs her single "He Said She Said".

Bring It On: All or Nothing is the third installment in the Bring it On series of films that revolves around high school cheerleading. Directed by Steve Rash, the movie was released direct-to-dvd on August 8, 2006 by Universal Pictures.

This film, which is the second sequel to Bring It On, has a tenuous link to the previous films, featuring only a similar plot of competing cheerleading teams that have to try something different in order to win. There are no recurring cast members or canonical references to the previous films. However, the film stylistically refers to its predecessors in that it is the second in the Bring It On series to open with a choreographed musical number that turns out to be a dream sequence of the protagonist, and like all three films, the end credits feature outtakes and clips of the cast having fun dancing.

As shown in the outtakes, the film's working title was Bring It On Yet Again.

The film was followed by another sequel titled Bring It On: In It to Win It, which was released direct-to-DVD in December 2007.

Plot

Britney Allen (Hayden Panettiere) is living the cheerleader's dream at the elite seaside campus of Pacific Vista High School, where she is captain of the cheerleading squad and dating the football team's star quarterback Brad Warner (Jake McDorman). She is the envy of everyone at school, including her overly-ambitious co-captain Winnie (Marcy Rylan). When Britney hears about a forthcoming audition for a top cheer squad to appear in recording star Rihanna's upcoming television special, she is determined that her Pirates cheer squad will capture the coveted spot.

However, Britney's life turns upside down when her father's new job forces her family to move to Crenshaw Heights, a multi-ethnic, working-class neighborhood east of Los Angeles. There she discovers a different hierarchy of students, and clashes with the African-American Crenshaw Heights cheerleading captain, Camille (Solange Knowles-Smith). Despite this, Britney is able to form a tentative friendship with Jesse (Gus Carr) and manages to prove her own cheerleading worth by getting a spot on the Warriors cheer squad. There she battles it out with Camille to input her own creative ideas.

Tensions rise when Britney has to choose between her new responsibility to the Warriors and her old loyalties to the Pirates when both teams join the same competition to be featured in Rihanna's television special. At the same time, she is forced to choose between her new friendship with Jesse, and her old relationship with Brad.

In the end, Britney decides to dedicate herself to the Warriors, happily submitting to Camille's captaincy. The Pirates, on the other hand, turn on Winnie because of her overbearing ways. The Warriors win the competition, and are seen performing with Rihanna in the closing credits.

Characters

Pacific Vista

  • Britney Allen (Hayden Panettiere) is the main character of the movie. She's a Pacific Vista cheerleader and captain of the squad. But her world comes crashing down when her father loses his job and her family has to relocate to Crenshaw Heights. After resigning as captain, her "friend" Winnie makes her swear off cheerleading.
  • Winnie Harper (Marcy Rylan): is Britney's best friend turned worst enemy. After Britney relocates to Crenshaw Heights, Winnie usurps the captain's spot. She becomes a tyrant and works the squad extremely hard. She also starts seeing Brad behind Britney's back.
  • Amber (Cindy Chiu): is Britney's other best friend. She's a bit sassy, but not in the same way as Winnie. She's not afraid to stand up to Winnie, and dissaproves of the latter's cheerleading techniques. She's isn't snobbish and mean like Winnie.
  • Brianna (Danielle Savre): is a Pacific Vista cheerleader. Winnie keeps telling her that she's fat and forces her to lose more weight if she wants to stay on the squad.
  • Sierra (Jessica Nicole Fife, credited as Jessie Fife): is a Pacific Vista cheerleader. She's not very smart, and she's always saying or thinking something dumb, such as trying to "cheer in her sleep" which ends up in hurting bystanders. Winnie treats her as if she were an idiot. But what Sierra lacks in intelligence, she makes up for in overall sweetness.
  • Brad Warner (Jake McDorman): is Britney's boyfriend and Pacific Vista quarterback. After Britney leaves Pacific Vista, he starts sneaking around with Winnie.

Crenshaw Heights

  • Camille (Solange Knowles-Smith): is captain of the Crenshaw Heights squad. She doesn't like Britney at first, but starts to accept her when the squad needs help.
  • Jesse (Gus Carr): is a male Crenshaw Heights cheerleader. He likes Britney and was the first person who was nice to her on her first day.
  • Kirresha (Giovonnie Samuels): is a Crenshaw Heights cheerleader and one of Camille's friends. She can always be seen eating something, because she doesn't think cheerleaders should be too skinny. She seems to like fried twinkies. She is also very outspoken.
  • Leti (Francia Almendarez): is a Crenshaw Heights cheerleader and one of Camille's friends. She's a tough Latina and always has something to say especially in Spanish. She also loves to party. She is second in charge of the squad.
  • Tyson (Gary Leroi Gray): is a male Crenshaw Heights cheerleader. He's girl-crazy which annoys Britney, Camille and several other girls. Britney threatens to "pluck his grapes" castrate if he continues his behavior.

Others

  • Tim Allen (Eric Bruskotter): is Britney's father. After Mr. Allen loses his job, he is forced to relocate the family to Crenshaw Heights.
  • Pam Allen (Kiersten Warren): is Britney's mother and a former cheerleader. She convinces Britney to tryout for the cheerleading squad at Crenshaw Heights.
  • Rihanna (herself): hosts the cheerleading competition at the end of the movie.
  • Swin Cash (herself): co-hosts the cheerleading competition with Rihanna.

Response

While the film was not released in cinemas, it was very successful for a straight-to-DVD feature. It sold more than 750,000 units (50% more than its predecessor Bring It On Again) and earned $12 million in its first week, the overall #3 in DVD sales that week. It was the second-highest debut of a live-action DVD premiere in history behind American Pie: Band Camp which was also from Universal Pictures and director Steve Rash.

The movie has also become a popular showing on American cable network ABC Family where it's frequently paired up with the original Bring It On as a part of a Double Feature Cheer-a-thon. ABC Family airs an alternate version suitable for television which has been mostly stripped of foul language and vulgarity.

Bring It On (2000) is a film about two competing high school cheerleading squads, starring Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford, and Gabrielle Union. It was directed by Peyton Reed and written by Jessica Bendinger.

The film was followed by three straight to video sequels, 2004's Bring It On Again (which only shared producers with the original), 2006's Bring It On: All or Nothing and Bring It On: In It to Win It, which was released December 18, 2007.

Plot

The Rancho Carne High School cheerleading squad "The Toros" are aiming for their sixth consecutive national championship title. "Big Red" (Lindsay Sloane), their team captain, is graduating and Torrance Shipman (Kirsten Dunst) is elected to take her place.

The movie begins with Torrance Shipman entering a car with her boyfriend Aaron, who explains that the transition from high school to college is going to be a difficult one. Meanwhile, a new male student, Cliff Pantone (Jesse Bradford), joins Torrance's class and takes a seat next to her. Although he is teased by two of the school's football players with the 'loser sneeze', he retaliates and Torrance immediately takes a liking to him.

During an after school practice for the Regionals, a girl injures herself and is taken to the hospital, forcing the team to hold auditions for a new member. All the applicants turn out to be complete failures, some even turning out to sing and do ballet. Whitney is positive her younger sister Jamie would be perfect for the team as she is light and can be thrown easily. When Jamie auditions, Whitney and her friend Courtney are impressed, but the others are less so.

When the next applicant, Missy (Eliza Dushku), walks in, the girls don't appear to like her from her appearance and quickly find reasons to get her out of the gym. They say that tattoos are strictly forbidden but Missy reveals that the tattoo on her arm was drawn on when she was bored during fourth period. Missy explains that she's trying out because cheerleading is the closest thing she could find to gymnastics, since the school doesn't have a gymnastics team. Whitney attempts to force her to leave by telling her to complete a series of gymnastics moves (a front handspring step out, roundoff, back handspring step out, roundoff, back handspring, ending with a full twisting layout) which Missy successfully executes, amazing the rest of the crew. Torrance is especially impressed and declares her to be "bank", but Courtney refers to her as an "über-dyke" which Missy interprets as an insult and leaves angrily.

Later, Torrance shows up at Missy's house. She is surprised when Cliff opens the door, and learns that Missy and Cliff are siblings. Eventually, Torrance convinces Missy to join the team and they soon become best friends while Torrance's feelings towards Cliff grow.

When Missy shows up to practice and watches and hears the routines, she storms out once again. Angry at the thought of her hand-picked candidate behaving unprofessionally, Torrance confronts her. Missy says that the cheers the Toros do were ripped off, but Torrance argues that that is not true. To prove otherwise, Missy then drives Torrance to a run-down part of Los Angeles, where Torrance is stunned to see another cheerleading squad, the East Compton Clovers, perform the exact same routine as theirs. When the Clovers, an African-American team, confront her and Missy, Torrance learns that Big Red has been coming regularly to the Clovers' performances and stealing all their moves.

Deciding to stick with the routines, they soon discover that the Clovers this time will not be ignored, when they show up at a Toros home game and perform the routine from the stands simultaneously with the cheerleaders, showing everyone in the stadium that the routines were stolen. The squad, with no options left, decides to change the routines.

The Toros need to put together a new routine quickly, but are struggling to come up with ideas. Torrance calls Aaron for support, but he doesn't pick up. When he does, it is revealed that he is cheating on Torrance without her knowing. He refers the team to a professional choreographer named Sparky Pulastri, who teaches the team a new routine. Things seem okay until the Regionals competition, when the Toros find out that another team have exactly the same routine as theirs. Just before their routine, Torrance spots Aaron and Cliff sitting behind one another and she waves at them. When Aaron blows her a kiss, she kisses back and Cliff, thinking that the kiss is meant for him, smiles to himself. After their copied routine, an official informs Torrance that Sparky was a scam artist who was teaching the same routine to various groups up and down the West Coast, but as the Toros are the current champions they are guaranteed a place in order to defend the title.

Torrance is approached by an unapologetic Big Red who screams at her for ruining the team's chances and claims she was a better team captain, then storms off. Torrance is then approached by Aaron who gives her a big hug but suggests that maybe she should hand over the captaincy to another team mate. Angry, Torrance walks off.

By this point, Torrance's personal problems have gotten to her, and she considers giving up cheerleading altogether. Cliff, however, upon seeing her like this, tells her that he believes in her and gives her encouragement. Torrance is visibly touched by this, and the duo come close to sharing a kiss, but are interrupted by Missy.

When Torrance walks into the gym the next day, Courtney and Whitney walk by her side and talk to her about stepping down from being captain. They announce to the group that they would pull out of this year's Nationals as they wouldn't be able to get a routine done in time. Torrance doesn't agree and convinces the team that they will do whatever it takes to win Nationals. She realizes that Aaron has sold her out and she confronts him at his dorm where she finds out that he is sleeping with another girl and breaks up with him.

Meanwhile, the Clovers have to pull out of Nationals as they couldn't raise enough money, but Torrance, who is determined to compete against them, gets her dad's company to sponsor them. However, the team leader of the Clovers, Isis (Gabrielle Union), rips up the check saying she doesn't need Torrance's money and would rather the Clovers raise it themselves. They do end up raising it by appealing to a popular television talk show host ("Pauletta", based on Oprah Winfrey) who gladly sponsors them as part of the 'Wish Day' portion of her show.

Nationals Day finally arrives but before the Clovers and the Toros complete their routines, Torrance approaches Isis to try and make up for things. In an effort to be helpful, she tells Isis to tell her team to not step out of bounds but Isis seems to ignore her. After a few seconds, Isis turns around and yells to her team to not go out of bounds, possibly realizing that her rival team has had more experience. Isis, returning the favor, also tells Torrance that one of her girls was half a second early on all her moves while practicing the routine.

After all the routines are performed, with exceptional ones from Clovers and Toros, the judges have the results. In second place are the 5 time - reigning National champion, the Toros. They are disappointed at first but soon begin to cheer. First place goes to the Clovers and the Toros clap in admiration.

Torrance and Isis make up and end up becoming friends.

When Cliff walks up to Torrance and Missy, Missy leaves them alone and Torrance finally kisses Missy's brother.

At the end of the movie, the credits are accompanied by the cast lip syncing the popular cheerleading song, Mickey, performed by B*Witched.
